You could settle for something mass-produced, but why would you when London has some of the finest custom tailors around? The right fit changes everything—how you stand, how you move, how confident you feel when you step into a room.
And let’s be honest, finding a suit that actually fits straight off the rack is about as rare as a sunny week in London.
That’s where bespoke tailoring saves the day. A sharp power suit, a classic wedding tux, or a jacket that doesn’t feel like a hand-me-down—these expert tailors know how to make clothes that feel made just for you.
From hand-stitched lapels to fabrics that scream luxury, they’ll ensure your wardrobe is as sharp as your wit.
How much does custom tailoring cost in London?
The cost of custom tailoring in London depends on the type of tailoring service you’re getting. For instance, fully bespoke suits can range from £1,599 to £6,600 or more. The cost will also depend on the method, fabric, and tailor’s reputation.
How we chose the best custom-made tailoring services in London
Reputation & Experience – We researched each tailor’s background, considering years of experience, notable clientele, and any industry recognition. We also checked reviews to see if their reputation matched their claims.
Craftsmanship & Materials – We visited tailoring shops and closely inspected their work. We looked for precision in stitching, pattern matching, and overall construction.
Customisation Process – To assess how personalised the experience is, we went through consultations ourselves and gathered insights from clients who had bespoke pieces made.
We also checked how well tailors listened to requests, offered style recommendations, and made adjustments for the perfect fit.
Turnaround Times – We reached out to each tailor to ask about production timelines for different garments. We prioritised those who balanced efficiency with quality, ensuring clients don’t have to wait too long for their custom pieces.
1. Orhan London Tailoring

Location: 25A Pitfield St
Contact: +44 20 7250 3569
Operating hours:
- Monday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Saturday – 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
So we finally took the plunge and went to Orhan London Tailoring. We’d heard all the hype – Savile Row meets Shoreditch, he’s dressed everyone from rock royalty to actual royalty – so our expectations were pretty high.
Orhan himself is clearly a master. We could see the years of experience in every stitch, every drape, every perfectly tailored line. The fit was impeccable, the fabrics gorgeous, and the attention to detail blew us away.
We were also impressed with their commitment to inclusivity. They’re very welcoming towards the LGBTQ+ community and provide them with well-tailored suits, dresses, wedding outfits, the whole shebang.
Plus, that travelling tailor service? Genius. We loved the idea of bespoke coming to your home.
However, the front desk staff let the whole experience down. We even heard from some customers that their customer service was dismissive, so it definitely put a dampen on things.
Brings personal style visions to life
“So pleased I found Orhan tailoring, they really understood the androgynous style suit I was trying to emulate for my wedding. I felt completely comfortable with them which is sometimes difficult as a woman wanting a non fitted suit. It’s a super inclusive, professional, friendly environment would highly recommend!”

Refines dress fit with expert French seams
“I came to Orhan to get a bridesmaids’ dress tailored. The issue was regarding excess fabric at the waist of the dress (as the fabric is non-stretchy and so I had to size up to accommodate my hips). The team suggested some French seams – which create a corset-like hold at the back of the dress, while letting the skirt fall naturally. This worked perfectly on my satin dress and had a very flattering shape. I couldn’t be happier with the result!”

2. Golden Stitch London

Location: Golden Stitch, 62A Golders Green Rd
Contact: +44 20 3581 6213
Operating hours:
- Monday to Saturday – 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Golden Stitch London has been around since ’90, a solid sign of experience and reliability. They’ve also worked with some serious heavy hitters – Burberry, Gucci, and even some celebs.
We were looking for some tailoring bits and bobs, and they seem to cover everything: made-to-measure for both men and women, alterations, even dry cleaning.
We were especially interested in their bridal and wedding dress alterations, as we have some upcoming nuptials in the family. The free fittings are a nice perk, and they’re certainly confident with that whole “nothing is impossible” line.
One of their standout features is their speed—offering one-hour and same-day services, which is incredibly convenient.
However, we’ve heard some stories about jobs being left unfinished, so that’s something to keep in mind.
Sets a tailoring standard that’s hard to match
“Matt is quite literally a miracle worker. I can’t quite describe how amazing his work is, from taking in a jacket that was 3 sizes too big to the absolute miracle he worked on my wedding dress and my husband’s suit. I simply can’t go to any other tailor as they just won’t match Matt’s expertise. To top it all off, he’s absolutely lovely and puts everyone at ease immediately. Can’t recommend him enough!”

Accommodates last-minute tailoring with efficiency
“I came to Matt at Golden Stitch with two suits that didn’t fit me from another vendor with not much time left before my wedding and a lot of nerves! Instantly, Matt was accommodating and could see that I was quite stressed by the situation and really settled my nerves by showing his expertise and understanding of the problem. Matt took both suits and fast tracked the tailoring, of which there was a lot to do. He was in regular communication with me and in the end I received two bespoke suits that look absolutely fantastic and fit perfectly. Not only is Matt a very skilled tailor but a pleasant person to work with – he shared honest advice with me and it’s clear how passionate he is about his job and helping customers. If you have any tailoring needs, visit Matt at Golden Stitch!”

3. Design & Alter

Location: 14 Ingate Pl, Nine Elms
Contact: +44 20 7498 4360
Operating hours:
- Tuesday & Thursday to Saturday – 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Design & Alter was another latest tailoring adventure for us. Thirty years in the business is nothing to sneeze at, and they definitely seem to cater to a stylish crowd.
Their team of tailors, seamstresses, and fitters specialise in alterations, which was exactly what we needed.
We were impressed by the range of garments they handle – everything from high-end designer pieces and glitzy evening wear to tricky stuff like faux fur and leather.
Their focus on preserving the original style and proportions of each piece is reassuring, especially when dealing with delicate or intricate designs.
We also thought their sister company, Bride & Alter, was a clever idea. It’s a whole separate business dedicated to bridal alterations, restyling, and even bespoke bridal gowns. That’s pretty niche, and we loved the focus on updating heirloom pieces and vintage bridal wear.
However, we’ve heard reports of rude customer service, which is such a shame. In our book, great craftsmanship should always go hand in hand with good customer service.
Respects original designs while enhancing the fit
“I had a wonderful experience with Bride and Alter, especially with Giorgia who looked after me from the beginning. I came to Bride and Alter with my mums 1992 wedding dress and wanted somewhere that would look after it and not change it too much. Giorgia was patient and helpful with her suggestions but always listening to what I was wanting. The dress was tweaked to fit like a glove and and couple of layers of tulle removed. It looked the same but somehow different! It was perfect. Thank you for everything and looking after such a special dress.”

Handles fittings with professionalism and care
“I’ve just collected my wedding dress after my final appointment and I couldn’t recommend Design & Alter more. In particular, if you’re lucky enough to be paired with Lily, you’re in for a wonderful experience. My dress was quite fiddly, and my vision was something that would involve the team putting their heads together to find a solution for what I had been dreaming of. The team worked their magic and today I tried on my dress for the final time and was just so thrilled. Lily truly made the experience for me – we had several appointments including one where she kept me calm on an incredibly hot day and worked around me super quickly and professionally when I was feeling quite uncomfortable (not due to the dress but the heat!). In all honesty the prices were high, but I would say worth every penny given the quality, care and service that was clearly put in. Definitely would recommend and will be coming back when I next need something tailoring!”

4. CORNELIUS TAILORS

Location: Alpha House, 100 Borough High St
Contact: +44 7984 821125
Operating hours:
- Monday to Wednesday & Friday – 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Thursday – 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
We finally got around to checking Cornelius Tailors, and it’s easy to see how they’ve carved out a reputation as a go-to for all things tailoring.
From bespoke tailoring to alterations and repairs, they handle it all – whether it’s a high-street staple or those investment luxury pieces. Their level of care, regardless of the garment, is something we appreciate.
What really caught our eye, though, is how accessible and convenient they’ve made things. They have their own app, “Corneliustailors,” available on both Apple and Android. Managing appointments and tailoring requests straight from your phone? That’s a modern touch we love.
But we do wish that they had a website like the other custom tailoring services on our list. While the app is fantastic for managing existing tailoring projects, a website is still crucial in our book.
It’s the first place people go to learn about a business, see examples of their work, and get a feel for their style.
Ensures high-quality adjustments for special occasions
“Cornelius did a fantastic job and I would highly recommend him! The only slight word of caution is that the hours on his website weren’t 100% accurate in that I made a Sunday morning booking originally but when I turned up he wasn’t there and couldn’t get in contact with him using either his phone number or email. However, that is partially my fault for booking on relatively short notice, as long as you give more notice and check ahead I’m sure you’ll be fine. Overall, I was very happy with the quality of his tailoring at a good price (£70 to adjust a waistcoat and tailcoat to wear to a wedding). I’ll be sure to use Cornelius as my go-to tailor for any future needs 🙂 Many thanks Cornelius!”

Accommodates last-minute tailoring requests effortlessly
“Cornelius is not only a professional tailor and designer, but a wonderful warm and friendly human. He welcomed me into his office after I spontaneously asked to come to alter a dress I needed for an engagement shoot. I took two other articles of clothing and he patiently helped me with each. He did a superb work on each and I would highly recommend him to anyone.”

5. Fielding & Nicholson Tailoring

Location: 35 Sackville St
Contact: +44 20 7167 3490
Operating hours:
- Monday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
- Saturday to Sunday – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Founded in 2006 by an award-winning tailor (Ian Fielding-Calcutt, if you’re curious), Fielding & Nicholson Tailoring has expanded to Manchester, Zurich, and even New York. That’s pretty impressive, we have to say.
Walking into their flagship showroom is like stepping into another world – it’s all incredibly sophisticated. Five thousand clothes! We were completely overwhelmed (in a good way) by the selection.
And the fact that you can browse them with a drink in hand? Very classy. They even let you create your own playlist for your consultation, which we thought was a really cool touch.
Their whole bespoke process is clearly geared towards the discerning gentleman. It involves a deep dive into your wardrobe, fabric selection, and then super-precision measurements. A few weeks later, you’re back for a fitting to make sure everything is absolutely perfect.
What really stood out to us, though, is their five-year guarantee on their suits. It guarantees suits last long, which is something you want when investing in bespoke clothing.
However, be warned that this level of bespoke luxury comes at a cost. It’s a premium experience, and their prices definitely reflect that.
Delivers consistently exceptional tailoring over 15 years
“I have been using Fielding & Nicholson tailors for over 15 years. They are professional, modern tailors with an eye on the latest fashion trends. I specifically use Alex Riley who I would recommend to anyone for ideas on the perfect bespoke suit for any occasion. Alex has helped me with my last 4 suits, 2 jackets, trousers and fitted shirts. I have never been disappointed and if I have ever requested alterations on any of my clothes they are more than happy to oblige. Outstanding professional service. I will continue to buy from Fielding & Nicholson for many many years to come.”

Advises on fabric and design for different occasions
“Outstanding suit and even better customer service. I started a new job in the city and decided that my formal wardrobe was in need of a proper upgrade! Lewis was as attentive as he was knowledgable and helped me to design the perfect suits for my needs. I needed something that was durable and smart, but modest enough for the work environment. Something that would impress but that was ultimately functional. His experience regarding design and fabric requirements for different occasions was excellent. The fit is perfect and quality exceptional. I highly recommend Fielding & Nicholson Tailoring, and particularly Lewis Calcutt, for anyone looking for a high quality suit and excellent customer service.”
