Say goodbye to old habits with the 5 best hypnotherapists in London

Back in college, I gave in to peer pressure and tried smoking just because I didn’t want to feel left out. What started as a “harmless” way to fit in slowly turned into a nicotine habit that stuck with me for years.

Luckily, I managed to quit after a long, frustrating process. And even though I got there in the end, I’ve always wondered if there was an easier way, especially when I see how many of my friends are still struggling with it.

That curiosity is what drew me to hypnotherapy. I started looking into how it works and what it can help with. And the more I learned, the more I realized it can also help with anxiety, insomnia, and phobias.

Realizing how much it can help many, I enlisted the help of the rest of the Wunderlust London team to help me dig deeper and actually find the best hypnotherapists in London. Here’s what we found.

How much do hypnotherapy services cost in London?

How we chose the best hypnotherapists in London

  • Qualifications and Certifications: We chose hypnotherapists who are accredited with professional bodies like the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) or the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH).
  • Experience and Specialisation: We looked for practitioners with solid experience and who specialised in areas like anxiety, smoking cessation, or weight management.
  • Techniques: We considered whether they offer various hypnotherapy techniques and whether they tailor their sessions to each client’s needs.
  • Professionalism: We assessed how therapists interact with their clients through customer feedback. They must communicate and maintain confidentiality. Clients must also feel safe, comfortable and listened to during sessions.
  • Cost: We reviewed how clear and fair their pricing was. We also looked for therapists who offer flexible packages or different prices depending on how long the session is or what it’s for.

Paul Levrant, the man behind Hypnowellness, has been working in the field for over 15 years. He has helped people with issues like anxiety, smoking cessation, weight loss, and even sports performance.

His Hypnodieting Program intrigued our team. It combines hypnosis with cognitive techniques to help clients lose weight and keep it off.

We also liked how he doesn’t just focus on short-term fixes. He teaches self-hypnosis and mindfulness techniques, which give his clients the tools they need to keep progressing even after therapy concludes. It’s a good way for lasting changes.

One client we talked to shared how she managed to quit smoking with Paul’s help. She said the whole process felt well-planned and structured, with no cravings or irritability afterwards.

And it wasn’t just about getting results. Paul creates a safe, supportive space for his clients. He makes them feel comfortable and safe during sessions. His empathy really sets him apart.

We were also impressed by his media presence. He’s been featured on BBC2 and radio shows as a mental health expert, which strengthens his credibility.

That said, his availability can be tricky. He’s not available on Mondays and Fridays, so booking an appointment might be challenging.

His rates are also relatively high compared to some other hypnotherapists out there, but since he offers a free initial consultation, it gives you a chance to see if he’s the right fit for you before committing.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of experience
  • Specialised hypnodieting program
  • Teaches self-hypnosis and mindfulness techniques
  • Supportive and safe environment
  • Media recognition
  • Free initial consultation

Cons

  • Not available on Mondays and Fridays
  • Relatively higher pricing

With his guidance and expertise, I’m now in a good place

“Paul is an absolute hero and has helped me through my anxiety issues over the years. With his guidance and expertise, I am in a good place and am so grateful to have found him. I 100% recommend Paul. Engaging in therapy with him is literally the best investment I have ever made.”

Welcoming, engaging, and empathetic

“Paul is a very welcoming, engaging, empathic person who fashions and maintains a very safe and creative space in which one feels able to be completely open to the process and honest about one’s own feelings, history and engagement.”

The London Clinic of Hypnotherapy, run by Lydia Johnson, has dealt with issues like anxiety, phobias, and stress. She uses modern techniques backed by research rather than old-fashioned ideas about hypnosis.

Her work includes things like Cognitive Hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), mindfulness, and more. We love how she combines these tools depending on what someone needs.

In one case, a client came in for help with anxiety, but Lydia also helped them address an issue with drinking he hadn’t fully noticed before.

Many people also mention how Lydia creates a non-judgmental environment, which makes it easier for clients to open up and work through their problems. Some even said that she explains the process in detail to ensure that their sessions are a safe space.

Upon our evaluation, there are also nice extras. There’s a free first phone consultation, discounts for National Health Service (NHS) workers and students, and even seasonal offers that make her sessions more affordable.

However, we noticed that specific costs or package details are not publicly shared. It could be a drawback for people who want to compare their options.

Pros

  • Experienced in a range of issues
  • Modern and evidenced-based techniques
  • Tailor sessions to each client
  • Supportive environment
  • Free initial phone consultations
  • Discounts and seasonal offers

Cons

  • No clear pricing online

I’m so grateful for all she has done for me so far

“I would highly recommend Lydia to anyone. She makes you feel comfortable so quickly and is very supportive and non-judgemental. I have had a few therapists previously, and this is the first time I feel as though what I am doing/hearing in therapy is making a positive impact on my life in the long term. I am very glad that I started seeing Lydia and am so grateful for all she has done for me so far. I am very much looking forward to the progress I know I will continue to make thanks to her.”

She explained the process very clearly

“I had a fantastic experience with Lydia. She explained the process very clearly, and I had great results. My fear of flying was really terrible, and now I am calm and collected. It was definitely life-changing for me. Thank you, Lydia”

Our team checked out City Hypnosis, run by Aaron Surtees. He’s been a hypnotherapist for over 15 years with lots of media coverage, including BBC and The Guardian.

Aaron uses a method that blends traditional hypnosis with mind reprogramming. This has helped people dealing with anxiety, addictions, and compulsive behaviours. We’re impressed by how he customises each session to fit the person’s needs.

A client said they stopped a skin-picking habit, which had been a big problem for years. Another gave up on chocolate and soda and hasn’t gone back to them since.

The practice also focuses on mindfulness and positive thinking. One of the therapists even guided clients with personal meditations and stayed in touch after they moved overseas. It felt more like a supportive relationship than just a typical therapy session.

However, based on client feedback, we noticed that it takes four or more sessions to see a noticeable change.

One person had to attend nine sessions. He also felt disappointed about some minor mistakes, like receiving emails with the wrong name and missing session recordings.

They seem to work well for many people, especially for habit-breaking and emotional support, but it may take time.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of experience
  • Blends traditional hypnosis with mind reprogramming
  • Tailored sessions
  • Wide range of issues treated
  • Personal follow-ups
  • Mindfulness tools

Cons

  • Takes time for some
  • Minor email inconsistency email report

I couldn’t recommend Aaron more highly

“Life-changing, honestly. I really couldn’t recommend Aaron more highly and have already gotten many friends to use him to help with addictions of all varieties.”

Alex Eagle, Google review

I haven’t gambled since my sessions with him

“Following a recommendation from my addiction counsellor, I received two hypnotherapy sessions from Aaron in 2010 to help bring an end to my 20-year gambling addiction. I am delighted to report that it is now 2024, and I haven’t gambled since. With 14 years of abstinence without the slightest desire or inclination to gamble, I think it’s fair to say that for me at least, “it definitely works”. To anyone thinking of giving it a go, I hope it helps you too.”

Zoe Clews & Associates isn’t just your typical hypnotherapy clinic. Founded by Zoe Clews, who has over 20 years of experience and top-level training, the real strength of the clinic is the team she’s brought together.

There are 12 expert therapists who all have different areas of expertise. They work like a team, combining hypnotherapy and coaching to create a well-rounded approach to each client. They actually refer to it as their “SWAT team” style.

We also loved how they take on more complex issues that are often ignored in traditional hypnotherapy, like deep-rooted trauma or neurodiversity.

Instead of just managing the surface-level symptoms, they work on the deeper causes, like childhood patterns or past emotional wounds.

When we talked to some clients, they mentioned how gentle and supportive the therapists are. Henry, one of their therapists, was praised for helping people understand where the OCD thought came from, process it, and begin to heal.

That said, this level of care comes with a higher price. The initial two-hour session is priced at £295, and the 90-minute follow-ups at £245. If you’re on a tight budget, that could be a bit tough.

Pros

  • Open 7 days a week
  • Highly experienced team
  • SWAT team approach
  • Focuses on the root causes
  • Support for complex cases
  • Gentle and compassionate therapists

Cons

  • Relatively higher pricing

He helped me integrate parts of me that I forgot existed…

“I have been doing hypnotherapy sessions with Henry for about a year and a half, and it has been life-changing. He helped me integrate parts of me that I forgot existed and grow from a state of darkness and depression into feeling in line with my purpose. Practically, my relationship with my family is richer and the best it’s ever been, and my output in work is of much higher quality and more enjoyable. I would recommend anyone who is interested to try and see where deep hypnotherapy and integration work can take them.”

Raphael Cohen, Google review

The sessions were both nurturing and productive

“Had a wonderful experience working with Henry. The sessions were both nurturing and productive, and he provided me invaluable support in a time of great need. Found both his therapy and hypnotherapy extremely helpful in helping me undo unhelpful patterns. Would recommend to anyone wishing to heal and grow.”

Shahin Gurbanov isn’t just fully certified in hypnotherapy, he also uses NLP, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mind-Body Training. That mix gives him a broader approach than most, which seems to help with more complex issues.

His use of sound therapy caught our attention. He creates his own music using special sound frequencies that are meant to help the mind heal and change.

He says this method has a 95% success rate, which sounds amazing, but there’s not much info on how that number was measured or tested.

And since there isn’t much scientific research behind it yet, some people might want a bit more proof before fully trusting it. That said, it’s a very creative idea that could be very effective for some.

Clients liked his calm, grounded presence and his ability to truly listen. Several people described how he was able to explain psychological concepts clearly and concisely. That alone made them feel more at ease about their situation.

Some of the clients we talked to also said they’ve tried therapy before without much progress, but something about his approach finally worked for them.

We also found his policy of offering a full money-back guarantee quite remarkable. In a field where outcomes can be unpredictable, this kind of confidence is rare.

Pros

  • Broad range of techniques
  • Creates music for special frequencies to support mental healing
  • Explains things clearly
  • Effective for some where others failed
  • Money-back guarantee

Cons

  • Insufficient details on sound therapy experiments

Shahin is the person you’re seeking

“An unbelievably amazing individual with a knack for words. He doesn’t just speak TO you. He listens, and in today’s world, that’s the most important thing. If you’re looking for someone to assist you in the hypnotherapy area, please don’t let yourself down with someone else. Shahin is the person you’re seeking, and he’s more than equipped to assist you. Do yourself a favour, choose Shahin.”

Nate, Google review

I am so glad that I found Shahin

“First of all, I am really grateful to you for your professional service. Second, what you did is inconceivable to me, and I don’t understand why nobody talks about hypnotherapy while harming themselves by taking medications. Even my doctor didn’t advise me to try hypnotherapy. I am so glad that I found you, Shahin. No depression at all after 2 hours of the session. I can’t believe it yet.”
