Leaf it to us to find the best organic food stores in London

Not all organic food is created equal. Some stores have that just-picked-from-the-farm charm, while others make you feel like you should be wearing linen and discussing your next holiday in the South of France.

We’ve scoured London for the best organic food stores, from rustic markets to high-end havens where even the mushrooms have a résumé.

If you love your food fresh, ethical, and just a little bit posh, you’re in the right place.

How We Chose

  • Product Quality & Certification – We checked whether stores offer certified organic products, looking at labels like Soil Association Organic and EU Organic to ensure authenticity.
  • Variety of Offerings – We visited or reviewed store inventories to see if they provided a broad range of organic goods, from fresh produce to pantry staples and speciality health items.
  • Local & Sustainable Sourcing – We looked into how stores source their products by  prioritising those that work with local farmers and suppliers committed to ethical and sustainable agriculture.
  • Customer Experience – We assessed feedback from customers, either through direct visits or reviewing testimonials, to see how friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful the staff were.

This family-run gem is all about making a real impact on the community and the planet. They’ve got an impressive range of organic, gluten-free, and vegan products that cater to just about every dietary need you could think of.

We love that they have everything from fresh produce like fruits and veggies to pantry staples such as rice, grains, and pulses. They’ve even got baking essentials, dairy alternatives, and snacks. And get this, they also have organic wines and non-alcoholic options.

What really stands out to us is their commitment to sustainability. Zest has a zero-waste approach. You can see it in their efforts to minimise carbon footprints through pesticide-free farming, eco-friendly packaging, and reduced transportation.

Now, here’s the thing – the prices are on the higher side. So, while the quality is undeniable, we’d recommend being mindful of your budget.

However, for those who want the convenience of having organic products delivered to their door (yep, they do home delivery across South London), this is the store to check out.

Pros

  • Wide range of organic, gluten-free & vegan options

Cons

Goes the extra mile by ordering requested products

“Zest Organic Food is a delightful shop with a fantastic selection of high-quality organic products, including cheeses, coffee, and fresh fruit and vegetables. The staff are incredibly friendly, always welcoming, and willing to go the extra mile by ordering in products if you request them. Their baked goods are a highlight—delicious and reasonably priced. I especially love their homemade quiche, tortilla, and apple cake. They also offer amazing freshly made juices, and some of the best organic coffee.”

Serves freshly made cakes and high-quality coffee

“Such a great find and just round the corner from me. A small friendly shop, but don’t be deceived by its size as there is a diverse and great selection of organic produce, including skincare, supplements, organic wines, delicious freshly made cakes, coffee and a really good refill section! Very warm and helpful staff too and will order specific produce if you ask them. Really happy I found your shop.”

If we’re talking about natural food spots in north London, Earth Natural Foods is definitely one we recommend.

This family-run shop has been a local favourite for years. It offers a solid range of organic, fair-trade, vegan, and gluten-free products.

We’re big fans of their fresh organic fruits and veggies – always top quality. Plus, we can’t resist picking up some fresh bread, homemade takeaway meals, and a few bottles of wine or beer when we’re there.

We’ve also found a great selection of oils, cheeses, and loose teas. They even have some natural beauty products!

While the in-store experience is where they really shine, we do appreciate that they’ve expanded into online shopping.

We do have to say that their online range is a bit limited. It mostly focuses on supplements, beauty items, and zero-waste goods.

Pros

  • Wide range of organic, fair-trade & vegan options
  • Great selection of oils, nuts, cheeses & teas
  • In-store experience is excellent
  • Online shopping available

Cons

  • Online selection is limited

Stocks everything from dried herbs to homemade meals and treats

“Been using Earth for years. They really care about the products they stock, from the dried herbs up to something home made for lunch or a treat. They stock so much, including natural toiletries and skin products. I popped in today for some 100% pear juice, organic and no additives.  Impossible to find in most shops!  I love the bread and the lovely unique smell as you walk in the door.  It’s so redolent of natural goodness,  a happy place catering to the community.”

Bakes outstanding in-house buckwheat bread

“Earth natural foods is the best place for organic produce in London, there’s no other place like it. Steve is a true gentleman and never lets us down, we buy all our fruit and veg from him every week and he never fails to deliver ! The whole team at Earth Natural foods are a pleasure to deal with, they’re so polite and always happy to help. The fresh food counter is also excellent, if you want a truly organic and nutritious lunch this is the place to go. They also do an absolutely amazing buckwheat bread which is gluten free and they also have a yeast free version, this is baked in-house by an amazing baker who uses a family recipe that has been passed on for generations.”

The Source Bulk Foods in London has definitely become one of our go-to spots for sustainable shopping.

We really appreciate their 100% plastic-free, zero-waste philosophy – it’s so refreshing to be able to buy exactly what we need without creating extra waste.

Their range of products is impressive, from grains and pulses to bathroom essentials and sweet treats, all available for refill.

We love how they encourage us to bring our own containers, which makes it so much easier to reduce our environmental impact.

When we’re in the mood for some online shopping, they offer delivery and click-and-collect options, which is really convenient for us.

That said, we’ve noticed a few mentions of the prices being on the higher side, so we’d definitely recommend keeping that in mind if you’re watching your budget.

Pros

  • 100% plastic-free, zero-waste shopping
  • Wide range of refillable food and household items
  • Encourages bringing your own containers
  • Offers delivery and click & collect for convenience

Cons

  • Prices are on the higher side

Cares deeply for both customers and the environment

“High quality, zero waste, good variety, reasonable price, friendly staff and owner, amazing customer care. I’ve been a customer for a few years now. I only shop here now because their muesli and granolas are so delicious and cannot be found elsewhere! They also have all sorts of spices, teas, noodles and many other vegan pantry essentials. I also love their maple syrup. One time I had a minor concern with my purchase and the owner addressed it very quickly and was very understanding. It really shows their care for the customers as well as the environment. I would give 3 extra stars if I could.”

Stocks affordable spice jars

“Helpful staff and a great range – including cleaning vinegar, different cooking oils and plenty of hand wash options. The choice of chocolate coated nuts and other sweets is worth admission alone. Once you get the hang of the weighing and packing process it is actually quite efficient plus you choose exactly how much you want. Little jars for spices are also cheap at £1.20.”

4. Grown by Nature

grown-by-nature

Location: 283 City Rd

Contact: +44 20 7916 6658

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Grown by Nature is one of those health food stores we always look forward to visiting.

They’ve got a great variety of fresh fruits and veggies, bread, and plant-based milk. They also got cheese and yoghurts, along with vegan non-perishable groceries, pulses, and cereals.

What we really like is how they’ve curated their selection. Their range includes budget-friendly organic staples, like whole grains, lentils, and dairy-free alternatives. They make it easy to shop healthily without overspending.

Plus, they carry a mix of locally sourced and well-known ethical brands. There’s something for different dietary preferences, whether you’re vegan or gluten-free.

The staff there is super friendly and knowledgeable, and we always appreciate their dedication to offering high-quality produce.

However, one thing we do wish they had is a website, like most of the other organic food stores on our list. It would definitely make online shopping or checking out their offerings a lot easier for us.

Pros

  • Great variety of fresh and vegan groceries
  • Focuses on health and affordability
  • Friendly and knowledgeable staff
  • High-quality produce

Cons

  • No website for online shopping

Provides high-quality organic and healthy products

“Probably the nicest bio/healthy/organic shop in all of London with the sweetest owners who are always welcoming, friendly, helpful and smiling! They also have a shop on Chapel Market and both shops have a huge selection of food, veg, condiments, and snacks. Great plants/bouquets too!”

Lorra Videv, Google Review

Accommodates special requests whenever possible

“Amazing! This is my ‘to-go’ place for most of the shopping: fresh fruits, veggies, seasonally varied and oh so tasty! Friendly owner Nabeel, his wonderful wife and their beautiful, baby daughter, have since become more of friends. They are always ready with honest recommendations and tips, as well as accommodating any requests, where possible. The only place where the fruit and the vegetables actually taste good. Excellent choice of all sort of drinks, vegan option and lovely breads that can last a few days.  I highly recommend a visit!”

Hoxton Brothers Food is one of those family-run organic grocery stores we really appreciate.

With hours from 7 AM to 11 PM daily, it’s one of the most convenient places on our list to grab fresh produce and other essentials.

What we love is that they go beyond the typical grocery store setup. We can also pay bills and top up our Oyster cards while we shop, making it a super convenient one-stop shop.

Their commitment to freshness is clear too. They have daily restocks of fruits and veggies sourced directly from Spitalfields Market, so we know we’re always getting the best produce.

However, we have heard a few reports of rude customer service from the staff, which is definitely something we hope they’ll improve.

Pros

  • Open daily from 7 AM to 11 PM
  • One-stop shop with bill payments and Oyster top-ups
  • Fresh produce restocked daily from Spitalfields Market

Cons

  • A few reports of rude customer service

Goes the extra mile to source and stock requested products

“When you walk in there it’s like Fruit and Veg Heaven ! Any fruit that is on your mind even out of season . They seem to have it ! One of the most cleanest local supermarkets I have seen , very well presented easy to find any item you wish . The staff are very friendly always helpful . When I can’t find a product or they don’t have it , they do there best to find in and bring it in to the market . A lot of international brands and a perfect place for vegans!”
