Pros

  • With a wide range of neuro treatments available
  • Most staff are neurologists
  • Highly-praised consultation process
  • Excellent patient care
  • Tele consultations available
  • Well-equipped facility
  • Open everyday

Cons

  • Slow in referrals
  • Doesn’t offer finance, as of writing

Dementech Neurosciences is a private clinic with neurology as one of its specialities. And, while they provide a wide range of medical services, we appreciate that the majority of their staff are neurologists or are involved in the study of neurology.

We also like how they cover a wide range of neuro treatments, including Alzheimer’s disease, movement disorders, Parkinson’s disease, and common ones like headaches. They even provide intensive therapy if it is deemed necessary upon assessment.

Many of their patients have praised them for their consultation process, which includes extensive research prior to treatment. This, we believe, improves their understanding of neurological problems and thus the overall outcome for their patients.

They also don’t use the standard method of delivery, one that we believe distinguishes them. To give you an idea, this entails patients receiving various therapeutic methods from a variety of specialists with complementary skills.

To add to that, Dementech also provides excellent patient care. Patients are given care packages as well as an immediate management plan that includes a prescription for therapeutic drugs and a full consultation report.

There’s just a bit of an issue regarding slow communication, specifically the delay in referrals. This obviously disappoints us since it affects the quality of their coordination, which we take seriously.

Pros

  • Specialises in headache, dizziness, and multiple sclerosis treatments
  • Has affiliations with hospitals
  • Is an active neurologist researcher
  • Upfront rates
  • Insurance assistance
  • Smooth online booking

Cons

  • Separate payment for additional investigations during consultations
  • Consultation fees are quite pricey

Although Dr. Ben Turner does not have his own clinic, we believe he deserves a spot on our list as a highly experienced consultant neurologist. After all, he is well-versed in all aspects of neurological conditions.

In that regard, he specialises in headache, dizziness, and multiple sclerosis treatments. We also discovered that he is an active researcher on the mentioned treatments, which is a good thing because he will surely have more knowledge to properly diagnose.

As mentioned, Dr. Turner is a consultant neurologist and, in fact, has an affiliation with the Barts Health NHS Trust. He also sees patients privately at HCA Shard and London Bridge hospitals, making him easily accessible to those in need of his expertise.

Another thing we like about him is that he is open and honest about his rates. To give a brief, a new patient consultation costs around £280, while follow-ups cost between £155 and £190

This fixed rate, however, does not include additional investigations like blood tests, as it is charged by the hospital where Dr. Turner works. This is why we were not surprised to discover complaints about additional fees.

Fortunately, his office is eager to accommodate insurance assistance, which is a plus in terms of convenience. We’ve heard that booking an appointment with them is as smooth as their service, so feel free to experience his clinic yourself.

Pros

  • Staff with 15 to 30 years of experience
  • Focus solely on neurological physiology
  • Holistic approach
  • More on preventing and repairing of conditions
  • Has a welcoming environment
  • Staff can speak foreign languages

Cons

  • Difficult to book an appointment
  • Issues regarding email spamming
  • No pricing structure available

With its staff having 15 to 30 years of experience, it’s safe to say that London Neurology & Pain Clinic has enough background to provide a competent and holistic approach. To assist with this, they implement top-notch and effective treatment methods.

Unlike other medical clinics, LNPC does not treat symptoms and the like. Instead of suppressing symptoms, their approach focuses on prevention and intrinsic repair of the condition, which is quite effective looking at their profile.

This is actually the reason for the positive feedback that the clinic has been receiving.

The majority of clients are pleased with their first session with the clinic, reporting a significant improvement in their well-being and being able to get back on their feet in no time.

The clinic, being an international and interdisciplinary team, is also another factor we see as their advantage. For instance, their staff can accommodate foreign clients who speak other languages, something other clinics can’t provide.

Sadly, we discovered some negative feedback, but it was mostly about their customer service. There were numerous instances of difficulty booking, as well as widespread spamming of booking confirmation emails.

Now, as much as we are impressed by the wide range of neurologic conditions they treat, their lack of transparency regarding their pricing structure is kind of a drawback. It’s a good thing they can be consulted online, as per their provided contact details.

Pros

  • Known for handling complex neurological issues
  • Excellent credibility
  • Commended for being patient-centred
  • Highly flexible
  • Informative articles available on their website
  • Praised for providing tremendous emotional support

Cons

  • Unknown rates
  • No information regarding insurance

Dr. Katia Cikurel owns two private clinics where she practices her expertise in general neurology. However, based on her portfolio, she primarily treats patients with complex conditions such as those with brain tumours and epilepsy.

Having experience treating such conditions, it’s safe to conclude that Dr. Cikurel is credible in the field, especially when it comes to basic issues like headaches. Actually, she takes pride in not having returning patients for that matter – a good sign.

To add to her credibility, she is a consultant neurologist who works on neuro-oncology multidisciplinary teams in major hospitals in the city. Not to mention the various positions she has in teaching hospitals.

Looking at the reviews, clients actually commended her for being patient-centred and  meticulous even during consultations. She also understands the importance of time to her clients, as she is available for face-to-face or online consultations, demonstrating her flexibility.

We’d also like to highlight their informative website, which, to our delight, includes articles written by Dr. Cikurel herself. This certainly answers common questions about basic neurologic conditions, which clients can obtain for free, so that’s a plus.

All things discussed, Dr. Cikurel’s neurological expertise, in our opinion, could be extremely beneficial, particularly to those who suspect they may be suffering from complex issues. Well, aside from her background, she also excels at providing tremendous emotional support.

Pros

  • A decade of experience in the field
  • Treats various neurological condition
  • Lead consultant neurologist at London Neurology Clinic
  • Friendly approach
  • Explains details in layman’s terms
  • Specialises in neurorehabilitation

Cons

  • No operating hours available
  • Unknown pricing structure

For most of his clients, Dr. David Choluj is possibly the best neurologist they have had. This is simply because of his welcoming manner and friendly approach – even in delivering bad news to his patients.

That alone was enough to win us over, as it is difficult to remain composed when delivering a life-changing medical diagnosis. He even discusses everything that needs to be explained in layman’s terms, making each step of the process easier to understand.

He also managed to meet our expectations, professionally speaking. Dr. Choluj is a well-established neurologist in the city who is currently connected with Ten Harley Street- Medical Consulting Rooms.

With his years of experience in the industry, he is keen on different treatments and management that guarantee a holistic approach. He actually specialises in neurorehabilitation and complex neuro-disability management.

This gives us the impression that he can not only assist patients suffering from various neurological conditions but also help them on their road to recovery. Looking at it closely, this explains why many of his patients remain with him for an extended period of time.

The only criticism we have is that their operating hours aren’t clear. They do, however, have a consultation form on their website where you can choose the most convenient time and day for you to visit.

FAQs About Neurologists in London

What will the neurologist do during the first visit?

A full neurological examination is usually performed during your first appointment for a proper assessment. The doctors will then give you a complete diagnosis and time to ask any questions you may have.

How much does it cost on average to see a neurologist in London?

Do note that you may be required to undergo additional testing. It all depends on the result of your initial consultation as it varies from patient to patient.

What is the difference between a neurologist and a neurosurgeon?

The difference between the two is simple. While both diagnose and treat nervous system disorders, neurosurgeons perform surgery while neurologists do not.

Neurologists diagnose neurological conditions that can be treated with medications or other treatments.

When should I consult with a neurologist?

Always consult your primary care physician first for the best care. If they are unable to adequately treat your symptoms, they will refer you to a neurologist if they find fitting for your medical concern.

Why do patients need a neurological examination?

Patients need a neurological examination to get a specialized opinion about the symptoms they’re experiencing. It’s also done in case a patient wants to get a second opinion apart from their initial diagnosis with a different doctor.
